Mixologists’ Favorite Cocktail Herbs

It’s springtime and that means there are plenty of fresh herbs that can be used to garnish and tastefully enhance the flavor of your favorite cocktails. Show off your mixologist skills using seasonal herbs to make deliciously fresh cocktails. Try these 4 cocktail recipes using mint, lavender, rosemary and cilantro!

FRESH MOJITO

INGREDIENTS
1 ½ white rum
½ club soda
2 tbsp. white sugar
10 fresh mint leaves
½ lime, cut into 4 wedges
Ice

INSTRUCTIONS
Take the mint leaves and a lime wedge and place them inside the glass. Grab your muddler and crush the mint and lime. Then add 2 more lime wedges and sugar, muddle again. Fill the glass with ice, rum, and club soda. Stir, and add a lime wedge as garnish.

LAVENDER LEMONADE MARTINI

INGREDIENTS
For Lavender Simple Syrup:
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
6 sprigs of lavender

For Cocktail:
4 oz. vodka, chilled
½ oz. lemon juice
Sugar for rimming
Additional lavender sprigs
Lemon slices
Crushed Ice

INSTRUCTIONS
First, make the Lavender Simple Syrup by combining sugar and water in a pot on the stove and boil until the sugar has dissolved. Then, add the lavender sprigs and allow it to cool while you stir occasionally. Rim the edge of the martini glasses with a lemon slice and dip the edge of the glass into sugar. Strain the lavender syrup into the cocktail shaker filled with ice. Then add lemon juice and vodka. Shake until its cold. Pour the shaker mixture through a strainer into the cocktail glass and add some crushed ice if you like. Garnish with lavender sprigs and lemon slices.

LEMON ROSEMARY GIN FIZZ

INGREDIENTS
1 ½ oz. gin
2 oz. club soda
2 oz. lemon juice
Fresh sprigs of rosemary and slices of lemon

INSTRUCTIONS
Grab your glass and fill it up with crushed ice. Then add gin, lemon juice, and club soda. Garnish with rosemary sprigs and a slice of lemon.

CUCUMBER CILANTRO MARGARITA


INGREDIENTS
2 ½ oz. silver tequila
2 oz. triple sec
3 lime wedges
2 tbsp. sugar
4 thin peeled slices of cucumber
2 tbsp. fresh cilantro leaves
Fresh lime juice
Large ice cubes
Salt

INSTRUCTIONS
Take the 3 slices of cucumber, 2 tablespoons of cilantro leaves, sugar and 1 lime wedge and muddle them in the bottom of the cocktail shaker. Add the triple sec, tequila, and lime juice. Fill the shaker with ice and shake it. Rub the rim of the glass with the remaining lime wedges and coat with salt. Fill the glass with ice and strain the cocktail into the glass. Garnish with cilantro sprigs and the remaining cucumber slice.
