Welcome to WB Triple Shot, where we talk about three different spirits at three different price points. This month we’re talking about whiskey.
Whiskey flavors can depend on a lot of factors, such as temperature, length of aging and most importantly, mash bill ingredients. A mash bill is the combination of grains used to create the spirits recipe.
Let’s dive into this month’s selections!
First, we have Wild Turkey 101, which is priced at around $24. This Kentucky straight whiskey bourbon is aged in white oak barrels for 6-8 years and made with high rye content. The rye and 101 proof are what gives it a bite but still comes with notes of vanilla and caramel. Perfect to drink neat.
Next up is Makers Mark, priced at around $30. This is a wheated whiskey, which makes it less sharp, but still full of flavor. Makers is aged to taste, rather than time. This is definitely a more beginner friendly whiskey with sweeter notes of vanilla, caramel and spice.
Then we have Penelope Four Grains Bourbon, which is around $41. Like it says in the name, this whiskey is made from blending three hand-picked barrels consisting of four grains: corn, wheat, rye and malted barley. By blending these barrels into one, you get a perfect balance of flavors. Fruity notes with a sweetness and savory spice, this makes for the perfect whiskey to try in summer time cocktails.
